We are excited to announce the Inaugural UMSOM Substance Use in Pregnancy (SUP) Symposium on June 23-24. The symposium is hosted by the UMSOM Center for SUP co-Directed by Mary Kay Lobo and Joe Cheer (Anatomy and Neurobiology) along with Medical Directors Katrina Mark (OB-GYN) and Dina El Metwally (Pediatrics). Symposium Details:

The inaugural University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) Symposium on Substance Use in Pregnancy, hosted by the UMSOM Center for Substance Use in Pregnancy (SUP), will be a formalized mechanism to bring researchers studying this serious societal problem together to share and discuss their research advancements and clinical programs. The symposium will include seminars on drugs used during pregnancy including cannabis, opioids, psychostimulants, nicotine, and alcohol. Speakers include clinical and preclinical researchers across the world that will share their exciting advancements in the field of substance use in pregnancy in brain circuit and molecular mechanisms in children and mothers, the impact on the placenta, clinical and preclinical behavioral outcomes, peripheral mechanisms, and therapeutic approaches.
