Do not miss this engaging session led by African American historian Tsione Wolde-Michael which will include a presentation on the history of birthing practices and communal support systems in West Africa, with an emphasis on regions impacted by the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Participants will also be introduced to the medicalization of birthing in the United States, and the field of gynecology's relationship to enslaved African American women. /
