New Report From Child Care Aware of America
Continuing with timely state news, Child Care Aware of America (CCAoA) is out with their newest report examining the increasing cost of child care across the U.S., and highlighting the ongoing struggles that many families face.
The report, “Price of Care: 2021 Child Care Affordability,” including the state-by-state data included in the “Child Care Affordability Analysis” is now available here and on the CCAoA website, along with state-specific fact sheets and an opportunity to share this information with lawmakers via suggested sample social posts. Post this link that is specifically for Maryland.
Paid leave is the focus of “Supporting Families, Supporting States: A Framework for Expanding Paid Family Leave,” the newest report now available from our partners at the Niskanen Center. The report illuminates that while most working-class families still lack access to any sort of paid family leave, and efforts to introduce a new federal paid family leave program continue to stall in Congress, the number of states that have introduced their own programs climbed to 11 last year. Among the key takeaways, the report notes that Congress can help maintain this state momentum by introducing reforms permitting states to build paid family leave into their unemployment insurance programs and remove requirements for employer-side contributions.
